Ethiopian folk songs and prayers, which express the longings of the Beta Israel, Ethiopia's Jews for Jerusalem, are presented in a fresh and modern framework with blues, gospel and jazz influences. Ras Dashen's album is regarded as one of the finest and most original produced in Israel in the last decade and their music emphasizes that the musical roots of blues and jazz are in Africa.
