Rohan Somasekaran is a hard swinging, soulful modern jazz pianist with a funky edge whose influences include Herbie Hancock, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Kirkland, Keith Jarrett, Wynton Kelly and Oscar Peterson. Rohan leads an exciting modern jazz duo with Helen Svoboda on double bass. The music performed by this duo is a combination of Rohan's original compositions and modern jazz standard tunes. Rohan’s original compositions are influenced by the classic Blue Note jazz sound as well as Soul, R&B, Funk, and World music influences. This Duo plays jazz music for 2015 by respecting the jazz tradition but keeping its eyes towards the future.
