Brisbane International Jazz Festival presents ENTHUSIASTIC MUSICIAN’S ORCHESTRA

World Premiers by composer's Rafael Karlen and Louise Denson

Featured artists James Sherlock (guitar) and Diana Tolmie (saxophone)

The Enthusiastic Musician’s Orchestra (EMO) is Brisbane’s premier vehicle for the composition and performance of new and exciting music for large jazz ensemble. With all the bluster and bombast of a classic big band as well as the subtlety and refinement of a modern jazz orchestra, EMO is driven to swing!

Fulfilling the mission of this magnificent orchestra BIJF is pleased to announce a composer commission for Rafael Karlen featuring guitarist James Sherlock as well as the world premiere performance of Louise Denson’s new work featuring saxophonist Diana Tolmie. EMO has a long history of performing music specifically written for the ensemble by Brisbane composer’s including Andrew Butt (Winner of the 2014/2014 QMA’s Jazz Award), Josh Hatcher, Wade Gregory, Joseph O’Commor (National Jazz Award Winner), Chris Vale, Lachlan Bell, James Ball, Andrew Garton and Sophie Min.

EMO has released three albums of original Australian music and collaborated with some of the world’s finest jazz artists such as Julien Arguelles (UK saxophonist/Dave Holland), Dale Barlow (saxophonist with Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers), John Riley (Village Vanguard Orchestra) and Kristin Berardi (Winner 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival’s International Vocal Competition).
